Meet the team of dedicated volunteers

The knowledgeable volunteers of Bohemia Gold Mining Museum have been involved with mining and the town's history for most of their lives.

Bohemia Gold Mining Museum was initially a one-year project to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Bohemia Mining District. Thanks to the ongoing support of the public, it soon became clear that this informative museum is here to stay.

Given the support and love the museum receives, it isn't surprising that it still attracts visitors and volunteers 21 years after its foundation.

“Our volunteers love to 'talk the talk', teaching others what we know and love about mining, rock, and minerals in general, the joy of finding that first 'gold nugget' and the thrill of shared memories through many adventures of life to its fullest in our great outdoors.”

Depending solely on the contributions of the community and the support of the Faye and Lucille Stewart Foundation, Bohemia Gold Mining Museum is an institution run by people with a great love for their community and history, for people who share the same passion, curious minds, and history buffs.

Another important name to mention is Guy Leabo, the former owner of the mine at Crystal Basin. Guy was a mining historian and he collected antique mining tools and equipment. He played a vital role in the preservation and promotion of mining culture in Cottage Grove.

Bohemia Gold Mining Museum is a true community effort by people who are passionate about preserving the history and culture of Bohemia Mining District and Cottage Grove.
